Measuring

Make a sketch of the area to be landscaped.  Measure the length and the width and indicate these on your sketch. Multiply length x width to get the area. For irregular shaped areas, break the area into two (or more) smaller areas.  For triangles, measure length x width and divide by 2.

Add up total area to be sodded.  If area was measured in feet, divide the total square feet by 9 to get total square yards.

Pick-Ups

If picking up your sod, please consider the following suggestions:

  • One pallet of sod will weigh approximately 2500 lbs.  Weight may vary slightly depending on grass type, season, or moisture level.

  • Make sure you have the proper vehicle to haul your sod.  Generally, a 1/2 ton pickup truck can handle one pallet of our sod.

  • You should also bring ratchet straps or rope to tie down your load.  If your truck has a plastic bed-liner, you may wish to set a sheet of plywood in the bed to avoid damage to the liner.
